The Red Wings appeared to be affording Lucas Raymond and Joe Veleno opportunities to make the team’s opening-night roster, at least according to the Red Wings’ beat writers. who Tweeted out the lines during this morning’s practice. After practice, coach Jeff Blashill clarified the situation:
Blashill said Ryan released from PTO.— Ansar Khan (@AnsarKhanMLive) October 11, 2021
Jeff Blashill said Bobby Ryan has been released from his PTO. Also said it was a tough call, he’s a good person and a good hockey player. @DetroitRedWings #LGRW— Daniella Bruce (@daniellabruce_) October 11, 2021
I’m sad that Bobby Ryan didn’t land a spot with the Wings, but he just…He lost a step over the past two seasons, and the Red Wings need to be a faster team.
I hope he finds a spot somewhere else.— George Malik (@georgemalik) October 11, 2021
Tis official:
Bobby Ryan has been released from his PTO, per Coach Blashill.— Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings) October 11, 2021
I’m a little sad for him that it didn’t work out because he said he was more comfortable in Detroiot than he was anywhere else in his career. With that having been said, his lack of foot speed was becoming more and more obvious, and I agree with George’s comment about the Wings needing to get faster.
Hopefully a team that is relatively deep but wants to add a veteran to play in their bottom six and on the second PP unit gives him a shot.
I feel bad about Ryan, but the comments from Steve Yzerman make it sound like Ryan isn’t out of the mix…yet…
Yes, listening to Blash is dangerous
