Red Wings-Avalanche Tweetcap: Detroit wins a ‘playoff-style game’ over Colorado

The Detroit Red Wings began a 2-game road swing with a rematch against a Colorado Avalanche team which embarrassed the Red Wings 5-0 on home ice this past Saturday.

The final 2 games before the Olympic Break offered the Wings the ability to rebound from an 0-2-and-1 streak going into Monday night’s game in Denver and Wednesday night’s game against the surging Utah Mammoth.

On Monday night at Ball Arena, the Red Wings did earn a measure of revenge by defeating Colorado 2-0. Marco Kasper and Lucas Raymond (empty-net) scored for Detroit, Dylan Larkin had 2 assists, and John Gibson stopped 22 saves for the shutout.

1ST PERIOD:

The teams dressed the following starters and lineups:

GOAL: Only 33 seconds into the 1st period, after Nathan MacKinnon gave the Wings fits in their own end, Dylan Larkin fed the puck up the ice to Lucas Raymond, Raymond and Marco Kasper raced up ice 2-on-1 vs. Cale Makar, and Raymond flittered a pass to Kasper, who jammed the puck past Blackwood at 33 seconds.

Detroit 1, Colorado 0: Kasper (6) from Raymond (41) and Larkin (24) at 33 seconds 1st period.

PENALTY: Mason Appleton accidentally flicked the puck over the boards in the defensive zone at 17:38 of the 1st period.

2ND PERIOD:

PENALTY: Malinski tripped Michael Rasmussen at 6:54 and sat for the aforementioned infraction.

PENALTY: Taylor Makar hooked Axel Sandin Pellikka at 15:09 of the 2nd.

3RD PERIOD:

PENALTY: Albert Johansson tripped Joel Kiviranta at 2:22 of the 3rd period.

GOALIE PULL: Colorado pulled Mackenzie Blackwood with 3:08 remaining in the 3rd period.

TIMEOUT: Colorado called timeout with 1:21 remaining/18:38 elapsed.

EMPTY-NET GOAL: Lucas Raymond chipped in the rebound of a bounce off the end boards and the game was over at 19:29 of the 3rd.

Detroit 2, Colorado 0: Raymond (19) from Larkin (25) at 19:29 3rd. Empty net.

PENALTY: Valeri Nichushkin was called for a 10-minute misconduct for throwing his broken stick at Lucas Raymond at 19:29.
