The Detroit Red Wings face off against the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at 7 PM EST (on FSD+ and 97.1 the Ticket), hoping to avenge Thursday’s 3-0 loss.

The Wings plugged their “Morning Skate” webcast with their first Tweet of the morning…

For what it’s worth, Thomas Greiss was the goaltender who stayed on the ice the longest, and Darren Helm was allowed to skate with the team this morning…

The Athletic’s Max Bultman confirmed…

Jonathan Bernier is the first goalie off the ice this morning for the Red Wings— Max Bultman (@m_bultman) January 16, 2021

Darren Helm is out there skating, too— Max Bultman (@m_bultman) January 16, 2021

FYI:

For what it’s worth, the Carolina Hurricanes’ website has posted tonight’s game notes, and Dean Morton and Peter MacDougall will referee the game, with Shandor Alphonso and Ryan Galloway will work the lines.

Update: Carley Johnston reports that Frans Nielsen, Alex Biega and Darren Helm are all on the ice quite late.

Update #2: On the Canes’ side of the ice…This is due to Jordan Staal’s placing on the COVID reserve…

Wings’ Blashill, asked about Staal’s absence, said he has a ton of respect for Staal, calling him a “winning player.” Also noted Canes have strength and depth up the middle at center.— Chip Alexander (@ice_chip) January 16, 2021

Update:

@SaraCivian joined me to talk about the @Canes before tonight’s matchup with the @DetroitRedWings !! Of course I had to ask her THE most important question. I promise we got to talking hockey too. Geekie on how he’s transitioning well from junior to the AHL, and then AHL to the NHL: “I’ve had success being the player I am and sticking to my game, so it’s gotten me this far and I’m just trying to continue that trend and play well.”— Cory Lavalette (@corylav) January 16, 2021

Geekie on changing number to 67: “It looked cool.” Sometimes it’s that simple although he said there is a “boring story” to go with it. Maybe another time.— Chip Alexander (@ice_chip) January 16, 2021

Brind’Amour has “no idea” how long Jordan Staal will be out but confirmed Geekie will be in tonight and Staal (COVID protocol) is out.— Sara Civ (@SaraCivian) January 16, 2021

Brind’Amour said Geekie may not slide into Staal’s spot in the lineup. We’ll have to see if the lines get reconfigured to account for Staal’s absence. You can certainly plan to see more Aho on the PK.— Cory Lavalette (@corylav) January 16, 2021
