Of Red Wings-related note this morning:
- Detroit Hockey Now’s Kevin Allen suggests that, should the 2019 NHL Draft be re-done, Red Wings defenseman Moritz Seider would have been the 1st overall pick:
We start with the fact that Seider recently won the Rod Langway award as the league’s top defensive defenseman in 2025-26. He has also developed into a quality offensive defenseman. Last season, only 10 NHL defensemen put up more points than the 60 Seider showed on his resume.
In his five NHL seasons, Seider averages 181 hits and 185 blocks per season. He has been a full-service NHL defenseman.
This puts Seider over the top: He has played 100 percent of his team’s games since entering the NHL. His durability has been extraordinary. And there’s also his leadership. Detroit Hockey Now believes when Larkin is traded, Seider will be Detroit’s next captain.
2. Along the same lines, Sports Illustrated’s Jayd Serdy posted a list of 5 Red Wings who can win individual NHL award trophies this upcoming season, and his only realistic pick is #53:
Moritz Seider — Norris Trophy
If there is one Red Wing who could make a serious push for an individual award, it is Seider. The 25-year-old defenseman is coming off a career year in 2025-26, recording 10 goals and 50 assists for a total of 60 points, while he continues to handle massive minutes in all situations. His performance was strong enough that some analysts believed he deserved to be a Norris Trophy Finalist.
The Norris conversation will obviously include the likes of Cale Makar, Quinn Hughes and other established stars, but Seider has the opportunity to put himself firmly in that group as well. If Detroit is able to take that next step forward defensively and Seider continues to produce at a high level while also handling tougher matchups; he could receive legitimate consideration for a Norris Trophy.
3. Finally, the Roast of Chris Osgood takes place on Saturday, August 29th to benefit the Jamie Daniels Foundation, and there’s a live auction taking place right now as part of the festivities. There are many interesting and unique items that are part of the auction, and the bidding prices are still surprisingly low for many items.
