Red Wings-Kraken Tweetcap: Danielson scores 1st goal as Detroit out-battles Kraken to 4-2 victory

The Detroit Red Wings attempted to sustain the momentum gained from their road win against the Rangers on Sunday as the team opened a 3-game home stand vs. the Seattle Kraken. Seattle was opening a 4-game road trip on a 2-0-and-1 streak.

At Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday night, the Red Wings established a 2-game winning streak, defeating the Seattle Kraken 4-2.

The Kraken actually opened the scoring late in the first period as Jordan Eberle scored at 19:02 on a power play, but only 1:19 into the 2nd period, Lucas Raymond would tie the game as the plucky Kraken couldn’t stop a “Red Wings bounce” sneak through Joey Daccord…

Under a minute later, at 2:04, Nate Danielson would score his first NHL goal as the Red Wings would get another set of fortuitous bounces when Mason Appleton’s stick and then Danielson’s shin pad would tip pucks past Daccord…

And while the Kraken tied things up at 7:26 of the 2nd, when Ryker Evans blasted a goal through a screened Cam Talbot…

Detroit would score the go-ahead when Nate Danielson set up Emmitt Finnie at 10:56, on the power play, and after an up-and-down 3rd period, captain Dylan Larkin would score his 600th point on an empty-net maker at 19:30.

Cam Talbot stopped 20 of 22 shots, and Detroit went 1-for-2 in 3:19 of PP Time.

PREGAME: Cam Talbot and Joey Daccord led their respective teams out onto the ice…

The Kraken just list their starters…

So the “Sound of Hockey” will help us out here…

And the Red Wings list both their starters and their full lineup:

1ST PERIOD:

The teams dressed the following starters and lineups:

Seattle was able to generate a fair number of shots over the first couple minutes’ worth of play, but as they traded rushes with Detroit, the chances were mostly one-and-done as Talbot made good stops, and the Red Wings did not leave Joey Daccord untested.

As the 1st period progressed, both teams traded chances, and Detroit began to generate some quality attempts on Daccord, but Seattle’s principled defense kept the Wings off the board–as did their physicality–and Detroit found its hands full in its own zone with an unfamiliar opponent.

PENALTY: Seattle’s Tye Kartye pitchforked Mason Appleton into the Kraken bench, but Simon Edvinsson sat for roughing at 17:50 for being the 3rd man in the scrum…

GOAL: Regrettably, the Kraken opened the scoring as an Eli Tolvanen shot went off Albert Johansson’s skate, and Matty Beniers fed a puck through Moritz Seider’s legs to Jordan Eberle, who stuffed the puck through Talbot at 19:02 0f the 1st.

Detroit 0, Seattle 1: Eberle (8) from Beniers (11) and Tolvanen (7) at 19:02 1st period, PPG.

2ND PERIOD:

GOAL: Lucas Raymond would end up scoring off a fine defensive read by DeBrincat at one end, with Dylan Larkin setting up Lucas Raymond for a tipped-off-a-Seattle-Kraken-stick goal that managed to wiggle its way behind Joey Daccord.

Detroit 1, Seattle 1: Raymond (6) from DeBrincat (13) and Seider (10) at 1:19 of the 2nd.

GOAL: And at 2:04 of the 2nd period, Nate Danielson’s shin pad scored his first NHL goal, with an Axel Sandin Pellikka shot going off both Mason Appleton and Danielson’s leg behind Daccord to give the Wings a 2-1 lead!

Detroit 2, Seattle 1: Danielson (1) from Appleton (5) and Sandin Pellikka (4) at 2:04 of the 2nd.

Detroit had gained control of the game, but only barely given how hard the Kraken were skating into Detroit’s zone. This was a bit of a chess match.

GOAL: Nate Danielson was the beneficiary of a fortunate bounce as Detroit flipped the puck off the boards into the air, and Danielson and Finnie chugged up vs. 3 Kraken defenders, Danielson took the puck and deked and dangled his way through the Kraken and Joey Daccord, scoring his 2nd NHL goal at 5:01 of the 2nd period.

Detroit 3, Seattle 1: Danielson (2) from Appleton (6) and Chiarot (4) at 5:01 of the 2nd period.

KRAKEN CHALLENGE: Seattle challenged the goal for Emmitt Finnie being offside, and the goal was very much so a razor’s edge replay…but it was determined to be OFFSIDE…

AND THE GOAL WAS WAVED OFF.

GOAL: Of course, Seattle’s Ryker Evans blasted a point shot through and off Travis Hamonic’s stick to give Seattle a 2-2 tie.

Detroit 2, Seattle 2: Evans (2) from Tolvanen (8) and Wright (5) at 7:26 2nd period.

PENALTY: At 9:37 of the 2nd period, Jani Nyman was run into Cam Talbot by Simon Edvinsson, and Nyman’s butt caught Cam Talbot’s face. Nyman sat for goaltender interference, giving Detroit a power play.

GOAL: Off a half-boards win by Andrew Copp on the right hand side, Nate Danielson took the puck down low near the goal line, he recognized that Emmitt Finnie was open, and Detroit’s rookie duo combined for a power play marker as Finnie blasted the puck through Joey Daccord at 10:56 of the 2nd.

Detroit 3, Seattle 2: Finnie (5) from Danielson (1) and Copp (7) at 10:56, PPG.

PENALTY: Emmitt Finnie was high-sticked by Brandon Montour at 18:51 of the 2nd period. Detroit power play #2.

3RD PERIOD:

PENALTY: Ben Chiarot was called for slashing Stephenson at 3:19 of the 3rd period.

GOALIE PULL: Joey Daccord left the net with 2:06 left in the 3rd period…

GOAL: Dylan Larkin scored point #600 on an empty-net goal from Lucas Raymond at 19:26 of the 3rd period.

Detroit 4, Seattle 2: Larkin (12) from Raymond (16) and DeBrincat (14) at 19:26 3rd period.
