Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Emil Lilleberg will have a hearing for an interference call against J.T. Compher of the Detroit Red Wings, the NHL Department of Safety announced Sunday.
The date and time of the hearing have yet to be determined.
The incident occurred midway through the second period of Saturday’s game with Detroit leading 1-0.
No news as to whether Nikita Kucherov might earn supplemental discipline for his trip of Michael Rasmussen into the frame of the empty net…
Update: “dudewithchronicpain” on Reddit posted the clip of Lillegren’s hit on Compher. It was a head shot. And “dudewithchronicpain,” I hope you feel better. Chronic pain sucks.
Update #2: The Tampa Bay Times’ Eduardo A. Encina’s reaction is…typical:
Defenseman Emil Lilleberg will have a hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety for his hit on Detroit’s J.T. Compher during the Lightning’s 2-0 loss to the Red Wings on Saturday night.
The date and time of the hearing are to be determined, the league announced.
Lilleberg received a two-minute interference penalty with 8:39 left in the second period for hitting Compher after the Detroit forward crossed the blue line and passed the puck, making high contact with Compher’s head and neck area.
The hit made the remainder of the game more chippy.
The period ended with a scrum behind the Lightning net that gave the Red Wings a power play to open the third when Victor Hedman went to the box for roughing Dylan Larkin, despite officials missing Larkin throwing a punch at Hedman. Tampa Bay’s Brandon Hagel and Detroit’s Lucas Raymond also received matching roughing calls.
The shame!
