Of prospect-related note on Thursday:
In the Champions Hockey League, Axel Sandin Pellikka did not play in Skelleftea AIK’s 1-0 loss to the Rouen Dragons;
In the VHL, Dmitri Buchelnikov had a goal and two assists, playing 15:56 in SKA Neva St. Petersburg’s 4-2 win over Ruben;
And MLive’s Ansar Khan filed a “cheat sheet” regarding the Red Wings’ European-playing prospects for this upcoming season. Among the Swedes playing for European teams are the following players:
Theodor Niederbach, C/RW, MoDo (SHL): He hasn’t progressed as well as the Red Wings would have liked during three years in the system after being selected in the second round in 2020 (51st overall). He’s played for three different organizations the past two seasons and hasn’t produced much during his time in the SHL (13 goals, nine assists in 88 games). He’ll need to build on a good playoff for MoDo in Sweden’s second division to have a chance of being signed.
Liam Dower-Nilsson, C, IF Bjorkloven (Sweden-1): Two-way center believes he has more offense in him after producing only four goals and 16 assists in 54 games last season between Frolunda (SHL) and Vasteras (Allsvenskan). Selected in the fifth round in 2021 (134th overall).
Noah Dower-Nilsson, LW, Frolunda (Sweden J-20): He has more offensive ability than his older brother, Liam, collecting 26 goals and 28 assists in 37 games for Frolunda’s J-20 team. A third-round pick this year (No. 73), he appeared in three games for the SHL club in a season marred by a shoulder injury.
