As you probably know by now, Red Wings draft pick Axel Sandin Pellikka had to drive from New York to Nashville (as reported by Expressen’s Gunnar Nordstrom and the Free Press’s Helene St. James [among others]) with his family, his agent, and Red Wings prospect Liam Dower Nilsson in tow.
This morning, in Swedish, Sandin Pellikka spoke with HockeyNews.se’s Henrik Sjoberg about his trip, HockeySverige.se’s Uffe Bodin posted a Swedish-language video interview of Sandin Pellikka’s media remarks, and Sandin Pellikka revealed a bit of a faux pas to Aftonbladet’s Per Bjurman (roughly translated):
Sandin-Pellikka thinks that it’s pure joy to end up with the classic Swedish team the Detroit Red Wings.
“Yes, it’s cruelly cool, I was so relieved to hear my name and I’m so happy that it was Detroit. Partly for all the Swedish history with Lidstrom and Zetterberg and all the others, and partly because it’s an Original Six team. It feels incredibly powerful.
“However, it was Chicago that I followed as a child, because my father bought Patrick Kane jerseys for me and my brother when we were small, and I have had Kane as a role model. But now I will definitely follow Detroit instead.”
