Red Wings’ Raymond Named NHL ‘Rookie of the Month’ for November
NEW YORK (Dec. 1, 2021) – Detroit Red Wings left wing Lucas Raymond, who led all rookies with five goals, seven assists and 12 points in 14 games, has been named the NHL’s “Rookie of the Month” for November.
Raymond, who was selected fourth overall in the 2020 NHL Draft, edged Red Wings teammate Alex Nedeljkovic (6-2-1, 2.24 GAA, .934 SV%) Anaheim Ducks center Trevor Zegras (4-5—9 in 11 GP), New Jersey Devils center Dawson Mercer (3-6—9 in 13 GP), Toronto Maple Leafs left wing Michael Bunting (3-6—9 in 14 GP) and Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman (5-2-0, 2.30 GAA, .914 SV%) for the honor.
Raymond found the scoresheet in nine of his 14 November appearances, including a trio of three-game point streaks: Nov. 4-7 (2-3—5), Nov. 13-16 (1-3—4) and Nov. 20-27 (2-1—3). The 19-year-old Gothenburg, Sweden, native registered his first career three-assist performance Nov. 6 at BUF and scored his first career overtime goal Nov. 27 vs. BUF, making him the second teenager in Red Wings history to accomplish the latter feat – after Steve Yzerman on Oct. 26, 1983, also vs. BUF.
Raymond, who joins teammate Moritz Seider (October) as a “Rookie of the Month” winner this season and is the only rookie who currently leads his team in scoring, tops NHL rookies in goals (9), assists (t-12), points (21) and power-play goals (3) through 23 total appearances in 2021-22.
The Red Wings are the first NHL team with different “Rookie of the Month” winners in consecutive months since the Toronto Maple Leafs in December (Auston Matthews) and January (Mitchell Marner) of 2016-17.
I don’t happen to believe that the Hockey News’s Jason Chen is correct in suggesting that the Red Wings don’t have any depth, but the Wings are not receiving strong secondary scoring as of yet:
20. Detroit Red Wings (11-9-3, -9. CF%: 26th, xGF%: 15th. Last Week: 26)
Alex Nedeljkovic stole a win which gives them three in a row, even though all of them were close. Beyond the top line and Moritz Seider, the Wings don’t have enough dependable players to lean on.
The Kraken took to the ice at Little Caesars Arena for their morning skate at 11:30 AM, and the Kraken were without two more important offensive players:
With four victories in the last five games, the #SeaKraken need to keep executing the small details and staying vigilant about gaining possession of the puck.
Red Wings prospect and Edmonton Oil Kings goaltender Sebastian Cossa was named to Hockey Canada’s World Junior Selection Camp roster this morning. Cossa is one of three goalies on the roster, so he’s a lock; Donovan Sebrango, a Grand Rapids Griffins defenseman, is a dark horse candidate to make the team.
On the road to Edmonton and Red Deer… ?
3️⃣5️⃣ players are Alberta-bound for ??’s National Junior Team selection camp, beginning Dec. 9 in Calgary.

Labatt Blue Light and Detroit Red Wings Foundation Team Up to Invest in Hockey Rinks Across Michigan “Pass-It-Forward” Promotion Allows Fans to Re-Direct Labatt Blue Light Beer Rebates Toward Restoration of Rinks .
DETROIT – Labatt Blue Light has teamed up with the Detroit Red Wings Foundation to “Pass-It-Forward” and invest to improve community ice rinks across the state of Michigan. During the month of December, fans who purchase a Labatt 24-pack will have the option to receive an $8 rebate from Labatt USA, or they can choose to forego it, and Labatt USA will redirect the rebate to the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. Labatt USA and the Detroit Red Wings will also make separate donations to the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. With the rebates and corporate donations, up to $30,000 in funds will be available to restore ice rinks for local communities and recreational hockey players.
“Throughout Michigan, Labatt Blue Light and hockey go hand-in-hand,” said Scott Suppes, Labatt trade marketing manager. “With such a loyal base of Labatt drinkers and hockey fans across the state, this program allows Labatt to support the communities that drink our beer. Partnering with the Detroit Red Wings Foundation, we look forward to restoring rinks for hockey players and Michigan residents to enjoy.”
“Joining forces on this new Pass-It-Forward promotion provides an exciting opportunity to help rinks throughout Michigan gain access to vital improvement funds,” said Kevin Brown, director of community impact for the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers “Together with Labatt Blue Light and generous Red Wings fans, we’ll continue to grow the legacy of Hockeytown in cities and towns across our great state.”
According to Arrowhead Promotions, an industry leader in promotions working with Labatt Blue Light on this initiative, localizing donations through rebates is a unique endeavor.
“Arrowhead Promotion administers thousands of promotions each year for our clients, and rarely do we see marketing efforts designed to not only promote their brand but also to demonstrate their commitment to make the world a better place,” said Bud Schneider, Arrowhead Promotion & Fulfillment President. “Arrowhead Promotion and Fulfillment Co is proud to partner with Labatt Blue Light on this Pass-it-Forward promotion.”
The Detroit Red Wings Foundation will provide an opportunity for ice rinks in Michigan to apply for improvement grants from the Pass-It-Forward promotion in early 2022. Details regarding eligibility and the application process will be released after the retail promotion has concluded.
In Farjestad, the 20-year-old Berglund will be united with fellow Wings prospect and fellow defenseman Albert Johansson.
Berglund was a 2019 draft pick, as was Johansson, and Berglund needs to have a step-forward season with Farjestad to earn the same kind of entry-level contract that Johansson has already received.
