Red Wings-Blues wrap-up: Nedeljkovic back-stops Wings to .500 mark at Thanksgiving

The Detroit Red Wings sit at 9-9-and-3 at the American Thanksgiving break no thanks in large part to an Alex Nedeljkovic-led 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday evening.

The second and third periods were chock full of saves like these…

And maybe that’s not great given that the Red Wings were out-shot 37-23 overall by the still particularly plucky Blues, but the Red Wings rather desperately needed to snap their 0-3-and-1 streak while facing a still-championship-caliber Blues team–without Marc Staal, Danny DeKeyser, or, for the latter stages of the game, Joe Veleno–and the Red Wings got the job done.

As you might imagine, our friends from St. Louis were frustrated with the number of quality scoring chances that didn’t end up behind Alex Nedeljkovic, as they told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Jim Thomas:

Red Wings-Blues quick take: Let’s go Ned Wings

The Detroit Red Wings attempted to snap an 0-3-and-1 road losing streak as they returned to Little Caesars Arena to host the St. Louis Blues.

The Red Wings snapped their losing skid against the tremendously tenacious Blues by a 4-2 score, but they mostly won because of 35 stops from Alex Nedeljkovic and key goals from Lucas Raymond, Dylan Larkin, Adam Erne and, in the end, Robby Fabbri as Detroit rallied from a 1-0 deficit and pushed to 2-1, surrendered the 3rd period lead, and pushed forth and forward under heavy bombardment from the Blues.

It was a rousing, raucous and wild win for the Wings, maybe a little TOO wild, but the Wings sit at 9-9-and-3 at American Thanksgiving, and that’s about as good as we could hope for.

The Red and White Authority interviews Sebastian Cossa

DetroitRedWings.com’s Art Regner speaks with Red Wings goaltending prospect Sebastian Cossa in today’s episode of “The Red and White Authority”:

SI’s Power Rankings: I can be thankful for the Wings’ top line, but is it Thanksgiving without the Seider?

Yeah, the title of this entry is a terrible pun, I know it. But what the hell. Anyway, Sports Illustrated’s Kate Yanchulis posted a set of power rankings, and they’re…mostly accurate as to what the Red Wings should be thankful for at American Thanksgiving:

27. Detroit Red Wings

Last week: 26
Record: 8-9-3

A top-tier top line. Dylan Larkin, Todd Bertuzzi and Lucas Raymond are the top three players on the Red Wings in terms of point production, with 52 points between them. The problem? They’re not receiving much production from the rest of their forwards.
