From the Toledo Blade’s Mark Monroe:
A couple of notes from @ToledoWalleye training camp:
RW Brandon Hawkins, D Blake Hillman, and D Chris Martenet are now in camp. All three were in AHL camp with Hartford. D Randy Gazzola remains in AHL camp with Belleville (Ontario) Senators.— Mark Monroe (@MonroeBlade) October 13, 2021
Hawkins led the rival Fort Wayne Komets in scoring last season with 39 points (23 G, 16 A) in 37 games, while Gazzola ranked second on the Komets’ roster in scoring, posting 33 points (4 G, 29 A) in 49 contests. https://t.co/fWLgcq1HqF— Mark Monroe (@MonroeBlade) October 13, 2021
This is new:
Grand Rapids is not expected to send any players down to the @ToledoWalleye this season. The ECHL team generally has at least 3 to 5 players each year sent to them throughout a season from the AHL affiliate.— Mark Monroe (@MonroeBlade) October 13, 2021
Veteran T.J. Hensick remains on a tryout agreement. Hensick, who has played in 112 NHL & 653 AHL games, asked for an opportunity to see if he could make a go of it. Hensick, 35, has not played since March 11, 2020 (his 900th career game before no fans at the Huntington Center).— Mark Monroe (@MonroeBlade) October 13, 2021
Hensick said he has unfinished business to help lead the Walleye to a playoff run. Dan Watson believes Hensick is in better shape than he was in 2020 and would love to have him. Looked energized, fast in practice. But Hensick wants to make sure he can play up to his standards. https://t.co/BZOYhPU7rj— Mark Monroe (@MonroeBlade) October 13, 2021
