I have been blogging about the Red Wings since 2006, when MLive hired me to work their SlapShots blog, and I joined Kukla's Korner in 2011 as The Malik Report. I'm starting The Malik Report as a stand-alone site, hoping that having my readers fund the website is indeed the way to go to build a better community and create better content.

  1. I think I need a daily movement list, for the Wings organization.

Today seems insane, at least for me! Some interesting players moving around. GR is at a Rebuild stage?

    1. Free agency happens at the same time for the NHL and AHL. So the Wings are losing players at both levels right now.

Grand Rapids is letting some players go to make room for new prospects and players.

  2. New opportunities for those who move on. There seems to be no chances here for them. At the same time that provides an open spot and an opportunity for recent draft choices.

Thank them for all they have done and wish them well in their new endeavors. Even LGD is hoping for more.

    1. Sometimes you have to allow prospects that you feel partial toward to move on to teams that might value them more highly…It’s hard no matter what.

I was a little peeved at Bernier’s about-face regarding his desire to stay and see the rebuilding Wings through their rough times, only to jump ship, but that’s just me.

  3. Most of the time I think people are just mouthing platitudes to keep from burning bridges behind them. I don’t blame them for it. Plus didn’t he get a million more than he would have here?

    1. He did get a $4.12 million payday, but I think that would have been approximately what he would have received here. It’s just…weird to me that he decided to leave. His call, of course.
