Former Wing Brendan Smith waived by Rangers

A former Red Wings player has fallen from grace on the New York Rangers:

The Red Wings traded Smith to the Rangers for 2nd and 3rd round picks, with the 2nd-round pick coming to the Wings in this year’s draft. The Wings drafted Peterborough Petes 2-way center Zach Gallant with their 3rd-rounder last spring.

  1. Over at Blueshirt Banter (NYR blog) the feeling seems to be either confusion at what went wrong or just “good riddance”. I’m personally still not sure what folks saw of him in the playoffs last year that was encouraging. He looked like the exact same old Smith then.

Though some are blaming… *fanfare*… the coach. Sound familar to anyone here?

Good on Kenny though for getting back what he did. He got a 2nd and a 3rd for a player that was waived only a year later. I wish he had more asset management like that.

    1. The Wings got Zach Gallant in the 3rd round with that second pick, and the 2nd is in this year’s draft…and I feel bad for Brendan, but he was a fit there, and then he wasn’t.

  2. They sure used him like someone that was going to stick around.
Last min of the game, PP even a little PK, TOI

Vignealt will go also. The Huge problem is Big Salary Nash who decides to ply once and awhile.
