In prospect news and notes, from the Standard-Freeholder’s Todd Hambelton:

Early this season, Maine Black Bears captain Chase Pearson was having trouble scoring goals – even one of them. It wasn’t a problem on Saturday night.

Pearson, son of former NHLer Scott Pearson, of Cornwall, scored two goals in Amherst, Mass., including the game-winner in the third period, to lead his NCAA Division I club past the Massachusetts Minutemen 3-2 in front of 3,934 at the Mullins Center.

Pearson netted his first goal 18 seconds into the game, finding the puck in a scrum in front of the goal and stuffing it into the net.

Pearson also connected with 6:41 left in the middle frame to extend Maine’s lead to 3-1.
