Red Wings-Bruins quick take: What a wacky, weird and earned win

The Detroit Red Wings attempted to both re-set their 3-7-and-1 road record after an 0-3-and-1 slide away from Little Caesars Arena…

And the Wings headed into the TD Garden, where Detroit never wins (1 win in 14 tries since 2014, per Bob Duff), and beat the shorthanded Boston Bruins, who were without both Brad Marchand (suspension) and their coach, Bruce Cassidy (COVID protocol).

This was a weird one, but the Red Wings got franchise win 3,000, their 3rd win in a row, and their 2nd win in 15 tries in Boston thanks to a fantastic performance from Alex Nedeljkovic (41 saves on 42 shots) and goals from Filip Zadina and Marc Staal, who may have had his best game as a Red Wing.

SOMEhow, the Wings were out-shot, out-attempted, out-chanced and seemingly out-witted in what was admittedly a low-energy game, but the Wings prevailed anyway.

The teams dressed the following lines…

The teams iced the following lineups, starters and scratches included…

In the 1st period…

Both teams chose to start their checking lines, so Carter Rowney drew in for the opening faceoff opposite Trent Frederic.

Frederic won the draw and the Bruins immediately chipped the puck into the crowd only 5 seconds into play, so the teams re-set at the Wings’ blueline for a faceoff that Detroit won.

The Wings chipped and chased, the Bruins cleared the puck to center, and Gustav Lindstrom surrendered the puck but Sam Gagner retrieved it, and Detroit cleared the puck and Zadina jabbed McAvoy, but Kuhlman cleared the puck in for Frederic, Boston cycled, and Leddy battled as Rasmussen took to the ice and was unable to clear the zone;

Taylor Hall then rushed into the Wings’ zone, only to be repelled;

Namestnikov, Erne and Rasmussen then went offside at the Bruins’ line some 1:19 into the 1st, drew in for a faceoff and won it back to Nedeljkovic, who played it to Seider.

Seider chipped, Bertuzzi chased, Raymond cycled, and the Bruins regained control of the puck. Craig Smith fired the game’s first shot in on Nedeljkovic at 1:46.

The Suter line drew in vs. Charlie Coyle and company in the Wings’ defensive zone, and Detroit won the draw to Oesterle and Seider, who cleared the puck to center ice;

Boston regained control, pushed the puck deep into Detroit’s zone, and Smith and Suter went the other way, Fabbri and Smith got bumped fairly hard around the end boards, Staal made a pinch and Boston chipped and changed, as did Detroit, with 2:35 gone in the 1st.

Bertuzzi, Raymond and Larkin took their second shift of the night, completing the four-line rotation, Leddy pinched, fed Bertuzzi, but bounced the puck off a Bruin, and the B’s scrummed their way into the Wings’ zone offside with 3:10 gone in the 1st.

Detroit lost the blueline draw, and Boston set up in their own zone, behind their own net, and pushed the puck briskly into Detroit’s zone, but Zadina, Rowney and Gagner gave good pressure toward the B’s net, and Gagner chipped a puck off Ullmark and out of play at 3:43.

As play continued, Boston seemed to have more jump than Detroit, and Detroit wasn’t standing up enough at center ice, regrettably affording the B’s a second shot before Raymond, Bertuzzi and Larkin took over, worked with Oesterle and Seider, and attempted to cycle.

Instead, Boston rushed into the Wings’ zone, cycled, lost and regained control of the puck in their end, and Staal and Lindstrom were the subject of Boston’s heavy forecheck.

Lindstrom turned the puck over and Boston cycled deep, but Suter skated up hard, dropped the puck to the blueline, and Leddy was stripped;

Coyle set up Taylor Hall, who circled the net, found a defenseman, and Carlo cycled, but Hronek took out Bergeron and Detroit cleared the zone.

Pastrnak, Hall and Carlo combined for a fine shot on Nedeljkovic, Pastrnak and Bergeron cycled deep, worked the puck to the blueline, and Namestnikov cleared so that the Wings could chip and change.

Boston led in shots 3-1 at the 7-minute mark.

On a 3-on-2, Nedeljkovic had to make a strong blocker shot on a Curtis Lazar backhand, and we went to our first TV timeout at 7:25.

At 7:25 of the 1st, Boston was already out-shooting Detroit 5-1 and out-attempting Detroit 8-2.

When play resumed, Boston’s Frederic tied up the draw in the left wing dot, but Detroit’s Zadina, Gagner and Rowney charged up into Boston’s zone, and as the Bruins took over possession of the puck, the Wings’ back-check was a little more realistically dogged.

Larkin, Bertuzzi and Raymond were checked by Coyle, and Boston cycled into the Wigs’ zone, where Coyle tried to shoot, passed the puck across the crease, and Tyler Bertuzzi broke up the rush;

9 minutes into the 1st, Hall rushed into the Wings’ zone, circled and cycled to Pastrnak, who was covered by Fabbri, and Bergeron hit Staal;

Smith skated the other way and fired a lone wrist shot in on Ullmark;

The Bergeron line continued to threaten and back off the Wings, but Suter’s line did a good job of working with Leddy and Hronek to stifle their chances, and the 10-minute mark passed with the teams fairly evenly battling it out.

Erne stole the puck from a B”s defender, Seider chipped deep for Namestnikov, Erne regrouped, found Seider on the right wing half boards, and the puck chipped out to the slot, where Oesterle snuck in and fired a hard shot off Ullmark.

The Bruins iced the puck with 9:08 remaining, and the Wings chose to change lines, bringing out the Larkin line.

Larkin won the draw to Hronek, he and Leddy fed Larkin center point, and the Wings missed the net 2 or 3 times, affording Boston a clear;

Larkin and Bertuzzi regained possession in the offensive zone, Raymond missed the puck…

And Pastrnak skated into the Wings’ zone, only to be stifled by Nedeljkovic and the Wings’ Fabbri coming back to check big #88…

And we hit the second TV timeout at 11:48, at which time the Red Wings were out-shot 6-5 and out-attempted 11-8.

When play resumed, Boston drew in the Wings’ faceoff loss in their own zone, and again, the Rowney line forechecked very well, forcing Boston to battle their way through the middle of the ice, but Grzelyck and company chipped and chased, Seider got away with a cross-check on DeBrusk, Haula cycled, swiped a shot toward Nedeljkovic, and the Wings’ goalie made a big stop;

The Rasmussen line got the job of checking Bergeron’s line for the most part, and Erne nearly set up a 2-on-1 with Rasmussen, but Erne fell losing his balance on his own.

Bertuzzi, Larkin and Raymond did a good job of cycling deep on the next shift, and Staal and Lindstrom were able to clear the zone;

The third TV timeout of the period hit with 5:16 remaining.

At 14:44, Detroit trailed in shots 8-5 and attempts 12-9; hits were 11-9 Detroit; giveaways 4-3 Boston, takeaways 3-2 Detroit; blocked shots 2-1 Detroit; faceoffs 6-4 Detroit.

The B’s won the faceoff when play resumed, and Rowney, Gagner and Zadina did a good job of bumping and grinding, stealing a loose puck, and forcing the B’s to chip the puck away without any chasing.

Oesterle was then chased down by Hall, Pastrnak cycled back to the point, Hall chipped a shot toward the net, and the Wings blocked it into the crowd;

Again, Rasmussen’s line was tasked with checking the Bergeron line, and Rasmussen came back to help check Pastrnak;

Bergeron whiffed on a pass cross crease, and Boston buzzed in the Wings’ zone for a bit, but Detroit was at least drawing even.

Fabbri, Smith, Suter and Seider then checked the B’s fairly heavily, but iced the puck with 2:36 remaining in the 1st, affording Boston a line change and a deep offensive zone faceoff. Boston brought the Bergeron line out, won the draw to McAvoy, Bergeron bumped the puck back and Smith cleared the zone briefly;

Nedeljkovic and Leddy and Suter worked together to clear the zone, skate into the B’s zone, and Staal and Seider fumbled an interchange, but Raymond, Bertuzzi and Larkin joined the fray, Nedeljkovic played the puck around for Bertuzzi, who regained control under some checking by Craig Smith, and Detroit iced the puck, but Ullmark played it.

Larkin, Bertuzzi and Raymond cycled deep, Larkin was held up, and Oesterle could not keep the offensive blueline held, but the Gagner line then took over and cycled, with Zadina and Rowney throwing their bodies at the puck;

On a 3-on-2, Boston could not convert, so Detroit traded chances happily, with Zadina, Rowney and Gagner doing a good job of working the puck back up ice;

With 31.1 remaining, Rasmussen was kicked out of the offensive zone draw, Erne tied it up, but Hronek and Leddy could not keep the puck in, and Detroit re-set;

Erne tipped the defenseman’s chip-in, Detroit re-set again, and time ran out on the first period.

In the 2nd period…

The 2nd period began with the Rowney line on ice, and they won the initial faceoff, chipped deep, and Lindstrom came back into the Wings’ zone to battle Nosek for the puck and eventually win out.

Detroit chipped and changed 35 seconds into the 2nd period, and Rasmussen’s line took over, dumped and chased, and re-set at center, with Hronek dumping the puck in for a good chase by Erne. Hronek fired a shot toward the net but wide;

And Coyle, Craig Smith and company generated a shot on the Wings’ goal that Nedeljkovic easily stopped.

The Bergeron line took to the ice opposite Larkin, and Raymond dumped the puck in vs. McAvoy, Detroit cycled with Bertuzzi finding Seider, and his shot was blocked and cleared up to Bergeron, with Pastrnak dekeing and dangling but firing a shot wide of Nedeljkovic.

Seider and Oesterle were able to regain control of the puck and settle things down to afford both teams line changes 2:18 into the 2nd, and Fabbri chugged up the gut, fired a shot wide of Ullmark, and Suter and Smith had to chug back to prevent Boston from converting on a 3-on-2.

The B’s brought Bergeron’s line right back out some 3 minutes into the 2nd period, and the Wings brought Rasmussen’s line onto the ice to face them. Boston went offside at the Wings’ blueline, and interim head coach Joe Sacco tried to get the B’s top line away from Rasmussen, benching Bergeron.

As a result, the Larkin line took over, and NEDELJKOVIC MADE A HUGE STOP ON REILLY as the B’s broke in 3-on-2…

Detroit skated up the other way, Bertuzzi established possession, Raymond and Larkin cycled along the right wing half boards, and the Wings chipped deep, reversed flow, and Staal pinched to help the Wings force Boston into a desperate dump-out.

The Rowney line took over opposite Nosek, and Detroit at least parried the Bruins’ rushes as Zadina came off the bench and stole the puck off Charlie Coyle, Suter swiped the puck as well, handed it to Zadina, and he deked backhand on the goaltender Ullmark. Zadina chipped his backhand into the net to give Detroit a 1-0 lead.

Zadina scored the Red Wings’ 1-0 goal from Pius Suter at 5:03. 1-0 Detroit.

The Bruins charged right back into the Wings’ zone and cycled as the Bergeron line worked a couple of shots in on Nedeljkovic, with help from their defensive corps, but Rasmussen and company were able to clear the zone, Fabbri fed Seider, who lost an edge, and the B’s came in 3 on 2, Pastrnak fumbled a pass from Frederic, Carlo cycled, Carlo was shoved and the puck rolled into Nedeljkovic, who held onto the puck as the first TV timeout hit at 6:04.

Detroit had been out-shot 5-1 in the 2nd period, and 15-6 overall, but was leading 1-0.

Boston continued to pepper Nedeljkovic as Hall was stifled at 6:30, and the Rowney line skated in on their own 3-on-2, with Zadina sending what should have been a shot against the grain as a pass instead;

Foligno and Coyle and Craig Smith then cycled into the Wings’ zone, backing Detroit in, but Nedeljkovic had a handle on the puck.

Nedeljkovic made two more good stops on Foligno, who chatted with Dylan Larkin and Tyler Bertuzzi about politics after jabbing at Nedeljkovic post-save.

Larkin, Bertuzzi and Raymond worked with Bertuzzi and Staal, and a bad pass by Lindstrom was erased by Nedeljkovic and Staal, so Bertuzzi chugged up the gut and fired a shot wide;

Larkin and Raymond tried to force a turnover, but instead, Craig Smith skated in for Coyle, Suter blocked a back pass, Reilly fired a shot off the boards wide, and Larkin hacked the puck deep so that the Wings could complete their change.

9:07 into the 2nd, Nedeljkovic stopped his 17th shot.

The 18th soon followed, and Fabbri, Suter and Smith were not acquitting themselves well in terms of volume of shots against.

Seider and Oesterle then came over the boards to help the Rasmussen line, and Detroit did a fair amount of working through the neutral zone as the 10-minute mark passed, and Boston regrouped.

Nedeljkovic grabbed shot #19 as the next TV timeout hit at 9:51.

At 9:51 of the 2nd, Detroit was out-shot 10-1 in the 2nd period and 18-6 overall; attempts were 27-13 Boston; hits 18-18; giveaways 9-4 Boston; takeaways 5-3 Detroit; blocked shots 5-3 Detroit; faceoffs 13-10 Detroit (57%).

When play resumed, Rasmussen’s line opposed Bergeron, Pastrnak and Hall, and Detroit’s Erne cycled, sent the puck to Hronek, and the play was blown dead as referee Marc Joanette took a heavy fall at 10:29. He was escorted off the ice with a twisted ankle.

The Red Wings and Bruins battled for possession of the puck after Joanette exited stage right, and Boston set up, skated in deep, and Larkin and Raymond astutely fed Bertuzzi for a fine chance that was flubbed;

Raymond was then blocked off a bit, but Larkin and Bertuzzi continued to cycle, and when the Wings had to reset at center ice, Hronek and Leddy played catch before setting up Zadina for a fine chance that was tipped out of play with 8:23 remaining in the 2nd.

In all honesty, the Wings needed a 2-0 goal pretty badly, and as Detroit’s Lindstrom got away with a dump of a Bruins forward in center ice, the fans booed lustily…

Detroit regrouped in its own end of the rink, Fabbri and Smith afforded Seider a break-up at center ice, and Haula charged into the Wings’ zone, where Fabbri cut him off.

Detroit turned over the puck on the next faceoff, so Nedeljkovic had to make stops 20 and 21, Namestnikov did not clear the zone, Nedeljkovic stopped one shot, Grzleyck another, and Carlo held the puck in as the Foligno line cycled on Rasmussen…

Nedeljkovic stopped shots 22 and 23 before Detroit could clear the zone.

Bergeron’s line came out opposite Larkin’s line, and Nedeljkovic made a fine stop on Bergeron breaking in off a Raymond turnover, ushering in the next TV timeout with 5:13 remaining.

Detroit had been out-shot 15-2 in the 2nd period alone.

Boston kept trying to set up Bergeron in the high slot off the draw, and they kept almost connecting.

Raymond, Larkin and Bertuzzi got caught flat-footed, as did Oesterle and Seider, and Hall raced in and blasted a heavy shot in on Nedeljkovic, who made stop 24;

Rowney, Gagner and Zadina took over, and they watched the B’s try to spring Pastrnak on a home run pass that almost worked.

With 4:16 remaining in the 2nd period, Raymond had to draw in vs. Bergeron, who won the deep defensive zone draw, and Detroit regrouped, but Boston ultimately set up Pastrnak, who tried to walk Staal.

That did not work.

Instead, Bertuzzi, Larkin, Raymond and Staal cycled, re-set at center, and Larkin dropped for Bertuzzi, who fired a hard shot in on Ullmark with 3:38 remaining in the period.

Detroit then brought out the Rasmussen line, and Hronek and Leddy as well, and that trio tried to cycle their way into scoring a goal, but Ullmark grabbed a loose puck to force a stoppage of play and a faceoff with 3:16 remaining.

The Rasmussen line got some help from Leddy, who pinched to cycle, and when Boston chugged back up into the Wings’ zone, Leddy iced the puck…

And Namestnikov and Foligno took roughing penalties at 17:22 as Foligno slugged Namestnikov, who headlocked Foligno.

ON the 4 on 4…

Bertuzzi and Larkin worked together after Raymond went off, opposite Pastrnak and Hall, and Oesterle and Seider broke out, skated back through center to usher in a line change, Hronek carried the puck in deep, cycled, Bertuzzi battled with the B’s in their end, Bertuzzi gave Hronek a screen and his shot went wide, but Leddy hit the crossbar…

And Detroit continued to cycle, Suter found Leddy, he fed Hronek, who was stopped by Ullmark, and Boston skated out as the 4 on 4 expired in the final minute of play;

Namestnikov chipped and changed, Foligno cycled, he found the B’s point men, Grzelcyk sent the puck deep, and Rasmussen took a penalty at the 20-minute mark.

Rasmussen was called for holding Erik Haula at the 20-minute mark.

In the 3rd period…

The Red Wings started the third period on the penalty-kill. Michael Rasmussen was in the box.

Detroit lost the center ice draw and Boston set up, skated in deep, and Lindstrom, Gagner and Staal cleared the puck down the ice;

Boston regrouped, skated up the ice and into Detroit’s zone, where Lindstrom cleared the zone, and Detroit changed PK’ers;

Suter, Gagner, Seider and Oesterle worked the perimeter as Boston cycled, Nedeljkovic stopped Hall, Gagner skated up with Suter and Gagner fired a sneaky backhander into Ullmark to force a deep offensive zone faceoff with 55 ticks left in the PK.

Namestnikov lost the deep offensive zone draw but blocked off the B’s first rush; their second rush was stifled somewhat by Bertuzzi, and Craig Smith blasted a heavy shot wide of the net;

Boston Datsyuk Dropped at center and skated in, battled and worked the perimeter themselves, with Nedeljkovic stopping Grzelcyk, and the B’s went offside as the PK expired.

Detroit killed the penalty.

2:10 into the 3rd period, Nedeljkovic played the puck up ice to Larkin, Zadina and Raymond, and the trio cycled, battled the puck away from the B’s defense, and Leddy and Hronek worked a lateral pass into a fair shot in on Ullmark from Hronek.

Rowney then worked with Erne and Fabbri for some reason, and the B’s won the faceoff, pushed into the Wings’ end, and Seider made a great play to poke the puck away from Foligno and out to center ice;

Oesterle and Seider did a great job working through center ice as well, stifling more Bruins rushes, and Bertuzzi jabbed a loose puck loose…

Larkin cycled for Raymond, he was stood up, and Foligno fed Pastrnak, who was stopped by Nedeljkovic.

Bertuzzi was bumped hard by McAvoy at center ice;

And when Hronek turned the puck over to the B’s in the Wings’ zone, Nedeljkovic bailed him out.

Nedeljkovic made another couple of stops on first Pastrnak and then Bergeron, with, as Ken Daniels and Chris Osgood noted, Nedeljkovic seeing the shots he was stopping.

Boston continued to pepper the net and its surroundings, however, and Rasmussen’s line took a dumb penalty as Lindstrom tripped Bergeron, and the entire Bruins’ 5 man roster charged Lindstrom for cross-checking Bergeron into the boards.

Lindstrom sat at 4:24 of the 3rd.

On the penalty-kill, Gagner and Staal cleared the zone despite losing the deep defensive zone faceoff;

Boston pushed into the Wings’ zone, but Staal cleared the puck again;

Then the B’s set up, McAvoy fed Bergeron, to Pastrnak it went, Bertuzzi blocked Pastrnak, and Nedeljkovic made a lovely stop on Bergeron with Foligno lurking.

Boston crossed 31 shots with 14:44 remaining in regulation;

And Detroit was called for another penalty, with Staal called for “hooking” Foligno with 1:01 remaining in Lindstrom’s penalty.

Staal sat at 5:23.

The B’s cycled, Nedeljkovic stopped one shot, two shots, from Pastrnak, from Hall, from Foligno…

Boston won the next draw, and Boston cycled, Nedeljkovic made one stop, another, Bergeron fanned on a chance in front due to Seider standing too close to him, Coyle worked the puck to McAvoy, down low it went, Hall to Pastrnak and sadly, Pastrnak scored to make it 1-1 with 6:20 gone in the 3rd.

Pastrnak scored the 1-1 goal from Hall and McAvoy at 6:20.

Lindstrom headed to the box, but Staal remained in the box for almost a minute.

Boston continued to push into the Wings’ zone, but Detroit’s Suter, Namestnikov, Leddy and Hronek tried to hold the fort, and they did so.

Seider, Oesterle, Rasmussen and Gagner took over, Bergeron fired a shot wide, and Detroit’s Seider cleared the zone, ending the penalty-kill.

Boston skated right back in, and Nedeljkovic stopped a bouncing puck with aplomb, ushering in a TV timeout with 12:30 remaining in the 3rd period.

The game was tied at 1.

Boston was out-shooting Detroit 12-3 in the 3rd and 35-13 overall.

When play resumed with 12:30 remaining…

Larkin drew in vs. Bergeron for a defensive zone faceoff, and Bergeron won the draw, so Boston cycled, Seider was tripped, but Detroit raced up ice, with Larkin leading the way.

Boston regrouped, Taylor Hall was stifled by Nedeljkovic, and Hall ran Nedeljkovic, affording Pastrnak a goal that did not count.

With 12 minutes remaining, Suter, Zadina, Fabbri, Oesterle and Seider struggled as Lazar jabbed the puck away from Oesterle and onto Nedeljkovic, who made a stop…

And Boston’s Curtis Lazar went to the penalty box for tripping Filip Zadina with 11:37 remaining in regulation.

On the power play…

The Red Wings lost the initial draw, and Seider skated to center, Datsyuk Dropped to Larkin, he fed Raymond, who looped back, Seider held the line, but Bertuzzi could not keep the offensive zone…

Seider regrouped at center, helped Larkin set up, Detroit worked a lateral pass deep and around the back boards, Raymond fed Bertuzzi for one chance, then Seider fed Raymond, he dropped to Seider, Larkin shot a puck wide, Raymond looked for help, Fabbri fed Seider, to Larkin, to Seider, shot tipped wide, Seider to Larkin, to Raymond, blocked shot, Larkin blocks…

To Seider across to Raymond, to the slot, tipped out of play.

With 20 seconds remaining in the PP and 9:56 left in regulation, the Wings’ second unit came out, and Leddy, Suter, Erne, Gagner and Zadina worked together.

The quintet cycled to Hronek, who blasted a heavy shot high and wide, and the penalty expired, but Leddy’s shot was rebounded and jabbed at by 3 or 4 Wings before Leddy and Hronek were blocked off.

Coyle and Haula cycled deep into the Wings’ zone, Zadina helped Hronek retrieve the puck, and Detroit took over with 9 minutes remaining.

Reilly got dumped by Rasmussen, and Reilly ran Rasmussen, so the Wings were headed to the power play and the Wings continued to control the puck, and as Rasmussen jabbed at a point shot that came loose off Ullmark, Staal raced in and chipped a shot over Ullmark to give Detroit a 2-1 lead.

Staal scored at 11:33 from Namestnikov and Lindstrom.

Detroit won the draw, cycled at center, and chipped and chased, with the Rowney line working;

Ultimately, Boston iced the puck with 7:51 remaining…

Larkin’s line did not force the Bruins to do much of anything off the initial draw, but their second foray into the Bruins’ zone forced another icing call, and a line change for Detroit.

Rasmussen won the draw, cycled to Namestnikov, and he chipped a shot in on Ullmark, ushering in a TV timeout with 7:12 remaining.

Detroit was trailing in shots 14-6 in the 3rd and 39-16 overall, but Detroit was in the lead.

Rasmussen’s line saw the ice to resume play, and when Hronek turned the puck over, Nedeljkovic stopped shot #40 as Tomas Nosek peeled off the boards and shot;

Erne, Zadina and Rasmussen did an OK job of checking the Bergeron line, but Detroit had to fight tooth and nail to contain the Bergeron line;

Nedeljkovic made a fine play to Pius Suter to key the breakout himself with just under six minutes remaining;

Boston took the puck from the Suter line, and cycled, but Seider and Oesterle did their damnedest to help the Wings clear the zone, and they did just that.

Larkin’s line did struggle somewhat vs. Foligno and company, but Leddy did a great job of stick-blocking a shot, and the last TV timeout hit with 4:41 remaining.

As play resumed:

Boston brought out the Bergeron line, but Erne won a draw deep in his own zone and Namestnikov cleared the zone once, Erne twice, Staal hipped Hall, and Erne cleared the zone a third time as Detroit chipped and changed, with Ullmark holding onto the puck for a late whistle with 4:03 remaining.

Suter then drew in vs. Frederic, won the draw to Oesterle, his shot went wide, and Boston took over…But iced the puck with 3:51 remaining.

Larkin’s line took to the ice vs. Nosek and company, and the Wings won the deep offensive zone draw, but Nosek made a smart play with Frederic and Haula to clear the zone.

With 3:30 remaining…

Larkin won a faceoff at center ice, and Detroit chipped the puck in for an icing call…

Larkin doggedly kicked the draw to Bertuzzi, who was grabbed by Foligno, affording Boston possession, and Nedeljkovic made another big stop;

Raymond chipped and Detroit changed with 3 minutes remaining…

Nedeljkovic stopped a rushing Bergeron with 2:51 remaining…

Rasmussen beat Bergeron on the draw, Lindstrom and Gagner worked it to Staal, who chipped, and Detroit shallowly checked…

Bergeron, Hall and Pastrnak cycled, pushed the puck to the point, and the B’s were not there;

So both teams changed with 2:15 remaining;

DeBrusk and company chipped the puck in offside, and needed to win a faceoff at the Wings’ line with 2:08 remaining in regulation…

Larkin drew in vs. Coyle and tied things up, but Boston pushed into the Wings’ end, cycled, Larkin gave the puck away, and the B’s missed the net, so Grzelyczk sent the puck deep, Boston cycled, and Lindstrom was hit heavily by Bergeron;

Detroit continued to play, and Rasmussen slid the puck wide of an empty net;

Boston charged into the Wings’ zone, cycled, but Detroit disrupted, and Gagner and Namestnikov fed Rasmussen for a shot that went high over the empty net;

Hall and Pastrnak cycled, Lindstrom and Staal bumped Pastrnak, and Detroit iced the puck with 28.6 remaining in the 3rd.

Boston called timeout with 28.6 remaining in the 3rd, affording Detroit a breath or five.

Bergeron dialed in for the offensive zone faceoff vs. Rasmussen, he tied it up, and the Wings chipped the puck down ice.

Boston cycled, pushed the puck up ice, Hall chipped and chased, Nedeljkovic played it around the ice and out and that was it.

Detroit won its 3,000th game.
