NewJerseyDevils.com’s Colby Antinoro penned a profile of Mastrosimone:

Robert Mastrosimone is considered an elite forward for his age with an admirable hockey pedigree. The Long Island native is a force on both ends of the ice and plays very physical despite his size. In 2014-15, Mastrosimone finished second in scoring for his Long Island Royals Bantam AAA Team in the AYBHL, a league that has produced NHL alumni such as Johnny Gaudreau, Kevin Labanc, Ivan Provorov, Daniel Sprong, and several other current players. He also played two seasons at the prestigious Shattuck St. Mary’s School, where he produced 76 goals and 79 assists in 102 games played.

“A goal-scoring winger with one of the top shots among draft prospects,” said Steve Kournianos of TSN.

After two years at Shattuck St. Mary’s, Mastrosimone, who’s nicknamed “Ducky” by his teammates, made the jump to the USHL, where he tallied 16 goals and 29 assists in 60 games for the Chicago Steel in his rookie season, enough to earn him a spot on the USHL All-Rookie First Team and an assistant captain position for his sophomore season. He improved his game going into his second season in the USHL, recording 30 goals and 29 assists in 51 games, finishing second in points for the Steel and ninth overall in the USHL. Mastrosimone was even featured in Sportscenter’s Top 10 Plays at #5 in February for his goal against the Youngstown Phantoms.

NHLcom on Mastrosimone:

• Mastrosimone was named to the USHL Third All-Star Team in 2018-19 after ranking tied for fourth in the league in goals and tied for 11th in points with 31-29—60 in 54 games with the Chicago Steel.

• In his first year in the USHL, Mastrosimone was named to the All-Rookie Team in 2017-18 after ranking third among first-year skaters with 16-29—45 in 60 games.

• Was a member of Team USA’s gold medal-winning entry at the 2018 World Junior A Hockey Challenge where he tallied 2-2—4 in six games. He also represented his country at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup where he tied for third on his team with 3-2—5 in five games.

• Mastrosimone, who has committed to Boston University for the 2019-20 season, models his style of play after Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron.

Per CBS Sports:

A native of Long Island and committed to Boston University, Mastrosimone has seen his stock rise the past 24 months on the heels of back-to-back productive seasons for USHL Chicago. He posted 30 goals in just 50 games for the Steel this past season and Mastrosimone has proven time and time again that he is one of the league’s best offensive weapons. He’s undersized (5-foot-10, 170 pounds) and gets knocked off the puck a bit too easily, but Mastrosimone is a hard worker and the strength issue should be rectified over time. Deep dynasty leaguers need to take notice here.

The Sports Forecaster on Mastrisimone:

Scouting Report: A true leader, he plays with a bundle of energy and always displays exemplary work ethic. Shoots the puck with aplomb, thanks largely to quick hands. Understands the defensive aspects of the game and is an excellent back checker and penalty killer. Is somewhat undersized for the National Hockey League, so he will need to add more bulk and get stronger in order to maximize output.

Long Range Potential: Hard-working, versatile two-way forward with some upside.

The Free Press’s Helene St. James posted a clip of Mastrosimone:

MLive’s Ansar Khan also weighs in:

The Red Wings selected Robert Mastrosimone at No. 54. He’s a 5-10, 170-pound left wing who played for Chicago in the USHL, collecting 31 goals and 29 assists in 54 games. He has committed to Boston University.

“Out of his 170 lbs., 169.5 is heart and desire,” Red Line Report said of Mastrosimone.

Red Line Report went on to say: “High energy forward who plays a fast and hard north/south game. Small, fast and skates with some explosiveness — shifty with a quick-twitch and deceptive acceleration. He’s got a laser of a shot and quick release, beating goalies cleanly from the outside and in close if given the slightest hint of daylight. Pucks come off his blade in a blur, and he’s also a deft passer. Uses sneaky vision to find the smallest of open passing lanes in all three zones. Creates chances and space for teammates by drawing in defensemen with patience, then dishing with touch off both sides of the blade. Avid competitor who works his ass off and is not afraid of going to the tough areas to get after pucks and opponents. Pesky defender who attacks the puck, can play in all situations as a go-to guy. Works his bag off on the penalty kill.”
