HockeyNews.se’s Henrik Sjoberg was in Detroit to witness Albert Johansson’s first NHL goal on Friday night, and on Saturday, he posted an article and accompanying video regarding Johansson’s rookie season:
Swede’s dream night: New life in the United States
Yesterday, Albert Johansson wrote a new chapter in his hockey career
The 24-year-old can now call himself a goal-scorer in the world’s best league
“It’s a boost for my self-confidence. A good start to 2025,” The former Farjestads BK defenseman told HockeyNews.se.
24-year-old Albert Johansson has played 2 seasons in the AHL with games in Grand Rapids.
But this winter he’s been playing all season with the Red Wings, and last night he scored in his 20th game of the season–his first goal in a Detroit jersey.
“It’s fun of course. The first goal is always the first goal. It will be remembered, so it’s a small boost for my self-confidence. It was a good night yesterday,” he told HockeyNews.se after Saturday’s practice in Detroit.
How do you see the whole season adding up?
“It’s fun to be here. That’s what you’re coming over for, and it’s been a little learning period, you can call it. Very new, and in and out of the lineup. A new coach now also for the last three games, and I have played next to Simon (Edvinsson), who I played with in Grand Rapids in the AHL, so it’s a very positive start to 2025, you could say.”
Five Swedes were on the ice for Detroit yesterday.
Lucas Raymond, who played until Johansson’s first goal.
Erik Gustafsson, Simon Edvinsson and Jonatan Berggren are the other Swedes on the Red Wings right now, and William Lagesson was recalled, and is practicing with the team.
“We have many Swedes and it’s a good group. There will be a lot of dinners on the road, and otherwise there is a lot of travel, so once you are home you try to rest and take it easy. But it’s good.”
He still follows Farjestads BK’s progress in the SHL, and hopes for a long spring in Karlstad.
“It looks good, I think. Winning games, and it seems to be good moves in Lofberg’s Lilja Arena, so it will be an incredibly fun spring, and I will follow careful in hopes of course that they’ll go far.”
