It’s Labor Day, and a week from today, if all goes well, Aunt Annie and I will be packing for our never-before-tried trip to Traverse City with an elder care twist.
In all honestly, aside from a couple of tremendous donations from benefactors both mysterious and not-so-mysterious, fundraising has been really difficult.
That’s okay; it’s usually particularly hard to raise money in the “late summer,” and I know that many of you are kind of GoFundMe’d out at this point…
But we’re reaching crunch time here a week out, and if you’re willing to lend a hand in a smaller denomination to help pave that road up to Traverse City, my 17-year-old Chrysler Pacifica is trying to throw a serious-ass wrench into the situation (see: power steering is funky, right rear passenger side brake squeals and grinds, oil change needed, and even my damn hood latch won’t work).
I’ll be taking the car into our trusted mechanic’s today or tomorrow, and then I’ll be doing a lot of praying, because we haven’t even raised the full amount of the hotel bill yet, and what little spending money we’ve raised is probably going to go to making sure that I’m not driving a rolling deathtrap up US-127 (I try to avoid I-75, though it adds half an hour to to the trip to go through Lansing).
We’ll have to dip into the reserves, a.k.a. the money we use to pay the month’s bills, in order to cover the expenses needed to get up to TC, and then hope that this week and the next two, we’ll make up for an investment that isn’t easy to make when you’re in a lower-income bracket.
In a weird way, this is a call to arms, and a call to get into “fall mode” as we’re 9 days out.
GoFundMe is incredibly slow in terms of actually moving $ to the bank account, too, so the more that I can raise before the trip, the bigger chunk of the $2,925 hotel bill we’ll be ready for.
Let’s see what this week brings. Hopefully, September brings a bit of sense of urgency to us both, and this is really the time of year where those smaller-denomination donations (see: $5, $10, $25, etc.) help pave the road, so please don’t think that anything is “too small.”
If you can lend a hand with our overall expenses, we have an old-fashioned GoFundMe here https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-george-annie-attend-prospect-tournament, you can use PayPal at https://paypal.me/TheMalikReport, Venmo at https://venmo.com/george-malik-2, Giftly by using my email, rtxg@yahoo.com, at https://www.giftly.com. And you can contact me via email if you want to send me a paper check. I’m also on Cash App under “georgeums.”
As always, I am grateful for your support, and I thank you for your time and your readership.
This blog has been a community effort from the start, and I know that impetus will continue.
