Roughly Translated: Initially, anyway, Marco Kasper wants to stay with Rogle

There’s already some debate as to where Red Wings 8th overall draft pick Marco Kasper is going to play next season. Hockeysverige.se’s Uffe Bodin spoke with Kasper (in Swedish!) about his plans for next season, and, as of the present moment, Kasper plans on heading back to the SHL. Here’s a rough translation of Uffe’s article:

TV: Marco Kasper completely set on staying in Rogle

The Detroit Red Wings continue to draft players from the SHL. After picking Lucas Raymond and Simon Edvinsson in the last two drafts, they chose Rogle’s Austrian forward, Marco Kasper, as the 8th player overall last night. However, he says that he has no plans to leave Angleholm already.

“I’m focusing on Rogle 100%,” says Kasper to hockeysverige.se.

Montreal: The Detroit Red Wings have made a name for themselves as a Swedish team. Partially due to the blue-and-yellow invasion during their heyday in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, partially due to their recent years’ heavy investment in Swedish players.

At this year’s NHL draft, the team once again chose to dip their toe in the Swedish pool when they made their first round selection in the draft. This time, however, it was not a Swedish player they bet on, but an Austrian.

From Rogle, the team picked Marco Kasper as the 8th overall pick. However, he leaves a reassuring message to the Angelholm team’s fans: He wants to stay in Skane [Southern Sweden] for at least another season.

Here’s the video (in Swedish):

As you might have noted from Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman’s comments, as made to the Free Press’s Helene St. James in the previous entry, the Wings aren’t certain where Kasper will play quite yet, but they’ll hammer that out over the course of next week’s development camp:
