Fox Sports Detroit posts Jamie Daniels Foundation’s ‘Celebrity Roast of Scotty Bowman’ online

Fox Sports Detroit has posted the Jamie Daniels Foundation’sCelebrity Roast of Scotty Bowman” on YouTube for all to watch, and its silent auction is still underway…

Among the roast’s highlights, from the Free Press’s Helene St. James:

The Perfect Human swears

Nicklas Lidstrom, four-time Stanley Cup champion, seven-time Norris Trophy winner and perennially polite, used a word that had to be bleeped in his pre-taped spot. “Scotty, you were a terrific coach, a great leader for our team. We had a lot of success together. But we also had a lot of fun having you as a coach. I remember one time, the play was going down in one end, and Barry Smith was standing next to you and you’re looking up the other side, asking Barry, ‘Barry, who the (expletive) is in my seats.’ This was during a game, which was a lot of fun on the bench.”

Lidstrom went on: “Another time, you were catching Tomas Holmstrom and Anders Ericsson having ice cream on the road the night before games all the time. Towards the end, you were asking them on every road trip, ‘Homer, how was the ice cream in this hotel?’.”

Did you miss the first show? No worries – it starts over on @FOXSportsDet right now or you can watch anytime on Youtube! Update: Here’s more from MLive’s Ansar Khan:

Red Wings senior vice president Jimmy Devellano, whose relationship with Bowman dates back to 1967 when both worked for the Blues, was instrumental in bringing him to Detroit.

“We had a very good offensive team, exceptionally good in the regular season but would really get shut down come playoff time,” Devellano said. “We bought Scotty in. He did a masterful job of coaching, but what people don’t understand unless you’re with the organization is, he really guided us management people in the things we needed to do in order to get us over the hump.”

Brendan Shanahan, near the end of the roast, said, “Thank you for the positive influence you had on all of us and the incredible memories we all share together now, having won three Stanley Cups together with you as head coach in Detroit.”
