Hockeybuzz’s Bob Duff a prolific author, and this evening, he penned an article for Featurd.io in which Wings assistant GM Ryan Martin discusses the NHL’s scouting combine.
As far as I can tell, Featurd.io is a website that won’t let you read its content if you have an ad-blocker and won’t let you copy its contents, so I’m not surprised that it’s shiny and new(s):
Not sure how many are watching the combine results. Some observations:
-Hughes has refused to be measured or weighed. Huge red flag. Probably on advice from his agent. I wouldn’t touch him at #6.
-Boqvist is 5″11.5 now. Only 165 but having a 6’0 frame is positive. His strength and explosiveness was off the charts. He’s rising in my opinion.
-Dobson is 6’3, 176 and had some of the highest scores on lower body strength. He’s a beast. And should eventually add another 30 pounds.
-Joe Veleno has superman stamina. I briefly chatted with him 15 minutes after his testing and he looked like he just woke up from a nap. Nice kid. Wouldn’t take him at #6, but if he slips to early 20’s I’d explore moving up. San Jose’s pick could be in play.
“The Washington Capitals asked prospects about the bus. A picture of what appeared to be a symmetrical bus was handed to the prospects on a piece of paper. The question posed was which way is the bus driving? Most every prospect who got this question got it wrong. When asked what the correct answer is, the Capitals said they tell them if they got drafted. Zing! Do you know the answer to this question?”
It wasn’t driving at all. (I haven’t seen the pic, just a guess)
