You don’t expect to post these kinds of blog posts, but here we are.
The goal was to avoid taking Aunt Annie to the hospital entirely, but she’s been unable to stave off repeated UTI’s, which are not good to struggle with when one is 84, so we shifted the goalposts and decided that it made the most sense–per our primary care physician’s advice–to take AA to the hospital for some intravenous courses of treatment…
And when we tried to get her out to the hospital via car today, she tore up her right arm and left ankle because her skin is just so incredibly, incredibly fragile, so we ended up having to call 911 and have AA transported to hospital via ambulance.
Her wounds have been tended to, we’ve got a treatment plan mapped out, and she’s stable and not in pain, but we’re going to be spending a couple of days here in Providence Hospital in Novi while the IV antibiotics work their magic, and I’m not going to leave her side until she’s able to come home, because that’s my “other job.”
None of this is ideal when you’re trying to run a hockey blog, even in the middle of the summer, but this is what happens when you’re the sole caregiver for someone who is both chronically ill and chronically ill at an advanced age.
We’re doing our best to be good teammates for each other, and sometimes that means that the blog has to come second.
I’m at least in a hospital with WiFi, and time moves slow here, but the reality of the situation is that both AA and I may be here for a couple of days, and, in that instance, all I can do is promise to give you my very best until things stabilize.
I’ll do whatever I can whenever I can. In the interim, I’ll be grateful for the fact that it’s July 21st, and we’ll take things a shift at a time.
Thanks for reading.
