If we were to do a podcast…

Everybody’s got a podcast these days. I’m surprised that Aunt Annie doesn’t have one, honestly.

Living with an aunt means that I hear an earful of my own, “You should start a podcast” nags, too, but the hockey world seems so very jam-packed with podcasts that I’ve held off, because I’m not certain that there’s really anything else left to say.

With that out of the way, I may have a person lined up who is interested in doing a podcast with me, and if we’re doing one here on TMR, it’s going to have to be different.

So the questions here are obvious: what are you looking for that you can’t yet find in the other Red Wings podcasts?

What slides through the cracks, and what do you want to hear a different take on? What can we do to stand out, and what can we do to be outstanding?

This is all theoretical right now, but I’m very serious about establishing a podcast once training camp is over, and I need your input to make it worth your time.

That’s not easy in a crowded marketplace of Red Wings blogs and podcasts, but I believe that we can accomplish it together.

  1. If you do it, I would expect:
    1. deeper dives into player performance (including some stats analysis not just the blah, blah, blah). Maybe include comparisons to other players
    2. Look at game strategies and game time results. (include some stats analysis – redundant I know)
    3. Review pertinent comments and questions from readers/listeners
    4. Comments from other writers/pods
Hope this helps – wishing good luck it is much work

  2. I think we have enough Xs and Os, player performance, strategy break down type Red Wing podcasts (WingedWheel, LockedOn, GrindLine etc.)

What I would like to see is more of a 313 Hockey type podcast where you discuss personal Red Wing matters (you could have guests to join in for different episodes). At the start of each episode you can give us your opinion on current matters, but mostly discuss Wings history. Like how you became a Wings fan. Going back and talking about a certain playoff run for example the 2002 run and what you remember about the Lidstrom goal on Cloutier or the Larionov goal in triple OT. Basically, a historical type podcast where you breakdown memories from the past and fans can email questions to you and give you a year or playoff run they want you to discuss. I was recently listening to Art Regner on his podcast interview Ken Kal and it was great to hear Ken’s stories about the 97 Cup Final and him driving to the arena before game 1 and listening to Philly radio already planning the parade. Just a suggestion, but a Wings podcast from a historical point of view or just your personal views about past trips to Wings training camp and such would be great IMO.

  3. I would certainly listen to another red wings podcast. I always love to hear prospect discussion but honestly any wings news and analysis is welcome.

Also, you really should start a patreon. I would certainly contribute to it and it would be a whole lot easier for readers and yourself I’m sure to get a reliable source of funds to support the blog.

  4. I’d like to second starting a Patreon and a podcast focused more on prospects and/or Grand Rapids. I know you don’t live by GR – but my favorite content you produce is always your description of players and prospects and where they’re at.
