Operation Tricorder

I’m still floored by the generosity of TMR readers to my fundraising drive to keep TMR in the blog cave. Aunt Annie is still floored by the generosity of TMR readers in the fundraising drive to keep Aunt Annie in the blog cave.

But it’s time to turn the page and start working toward the next financial goals for this not-for-profit blog.

Next, I need to raise funds for–put bluntly–auto repairs, so that I can finally get my ass out to Grand Rapids. I have a busted headlight and busted tail light (my vehicle tends to frequently fry my lights as I am one of those, “Get in the Pacifica, put on my seatbelt and flip on the headlight switch” people) that need repairing, as well as an overdue oil change…

And, as I was talking about earlier during the previous fundraising drive, my cellular phone is so old that it will stop working in March, and on top of that, its screen is so broken from peeling off the cell phone itself that I can stick my pinky finger under the screen as it dangles off the phone.

So I need to raise funds for a replacement–a companion to my computer, the Moonshot that you helped fund a year-and-a-half ago–something that I am calling “operation Tricorder,” because no good Moon Base has its Moonshot without an accompanying mobile device to take readings and report the latest stuff.

My credit score is a single digit due to some lingering debt and my student loans, so T-Mobile has informed me that I’m gonna have to drop $500 as a down payment on a new phone, and another $100 will go to the charger and case. Add in the car repairs, and that’s another $150, bringing the total to about $750-800.

I know this is a lot to ask, and I know that it’s gonna take time to raise funds, but when you’re a blog that has no commercials and has no ads, this is how you raise money for stuff you need. And in the case of my trusty 15-year-old car and my broken 7-year-old phone, some of the proceeds will indeed be going back into paying for blog-related hockey stuff. So let’s see what we can do.
