The Athletic’s Wheeler handicaps WJC rosters: eight Wings prospects make his projected rosters

For what it’s worth, The Athletic’s Scott Wheeler assembled a set of World Junior Championship rosters, and he made predictions as to how his selected teams would perform at the WJC in Edmonton.

Wheeler expects the Red Wings’ representation at the WJC to look like this:

Canada: Donovan Sebrango (defense, Grand Rapids Griffins, AHL);

Sebastian Cossa (goaltender, Edmonton Oil Kings, WHL);

USA: Red Savage (center, Miami of Ohio Redhawks, NCAA)

Sweden: William Wallinder (defense, Rogle BK, SHL);

Simon Edvinsson (defense, Frolunda HC, SHL);

Theodor Niederbach (center, Frolunda HC, SHL);

Liam Dower Nilsson (center, Frolunda HC, SHL);

Finland: Eemil Viro (defense, TPS Turku, Liiga).

I have been blogging about the Red Wings since 2006, when MLive hired me to work their SlapShots blog, and I joined Kukla's Korner in 2011 as The Malik Report. I'm starting The Malik Report as a stand-alone site, hoping that having my readers fund the website is indeed the way to go to build a better community and create better content.

  1. Of note is where he slotted the defensemen: Sweden…Edvinson 1st line, Wallinger 2nd. Finland: Viro 1st. Canada: Sebrango: 3rd line. Sweden is picked for a silver medal.
