Wings Training Camp return to Traverse City

Annual Training Camp events return to Centre ICE Arena from Sept. 16-28

DETROIT — Detroit Red Wings executive vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman today announced that the Red Wings will return to Centre ICE Arena in Traverse City, Mich., to host the NHL Prospect Tournament and Training Camp, as well as the 22nd Annual Training Camp Golf Classic at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme, Mich.

NHL PROSPECT TOURNAMENT

The NHL Prospect Tournament returns to Traverse City for its 22nd season, running from Thursday, Sept. 16 to Monday, Sept. 20, with a five-team field set to compete this year. The Red Wings will host the Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs for five-straight days of round-robin action, with each team playing either three or four games. Please note that participating teams are subject to change based on potential travel restrictions as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the tournament’s history, 697 players have moved on to play in at least one NHL game, including 18 who played for the Red Wings in 2020-21: Tyler Bertuzzi, Alex Biega (Buffalo), Dennis Cholowski, Robby Fabbri (St. Louis), Valtteri Filppula, Darren Helm, Taro Hirose, Filip Hronek, Dylan Larkin, Gustav Lindstrom, Anthony Mantha, Patrik Nemeth (Dallas), Michael Rasmussen, Givani Smith, Marc Staal (NY Rangers), Evgeny Svechnikov, Joe Veleno and Filip Zadina.

TRAINING CAMP GOLF CLASSIC

The Red Wings will open their annual NHL Training Camp with the 22nd Training Camp Golf Classic, presented by Rafih Motor Group, on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. Proceeds from the tournament benefit Involved Citizens Enterprises (I.C.E.), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing affordable skating programs to Northern Michigan.

Golf participants will enjoy a pre-round lunch before teaming up with a member of the Red Wings roster, coaching staff or management team for a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start on one of the resort’s pristine golf courses. The round will be immediately followed by a post-golf VIP reception in which attendees can mingle with Red Wings players and personnel and have the opportunity to bid on unique silent and live auction packages, including sports memorabilia, vacation packages and much more.

RED WINGS TRAINING CAMP

The 2021-22 Red Wings hit the ice for the first time for Training Camp, presented by Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel, on the morning of Thursday, Sept. 23, and continue daily through Tuesday, Sept. 28. Red Wings players, prospects and tryouts will be divided into teams that will practice and scrimmage throughout camp, including the annual Red and White Game on Sunday, Sept. 26. Following the Red and White game, the team will remain in Traverse City and hold practices on Monday, Sept. 27 and Tuesday, Sept. 28 prior to breaking camp for Detroit to begin their preseason schedule.
