Evening news: A Game-Day Preview, Blashill on the Bolts and Nielsen the scorer

Of Red Wings-related note this evening:

  1. Here’s the Wings’ Game Day Preview video:

2. Hockeybuzz’s Bob Duff spoke with coach Jeff Blashill regarding the challenges that the Lightning present:

“I actually think there’s been lots of moments we’ve played really, really well against them but we’ve got to find a way to win,” Blashill said. “We’ve got to take the things that we’ve done well and we’ve got to eliminate the areas where they’ve exploited us.

I thought the first period the last time we played them here, they took advantage of us on their rush offense and their O-zone offense a little bit, and I thought the rest of the game we played well. They’re going to create chances. I watched them against Toronto the other night, they can create tons of chances. So we’ve got to try to get them on their heels and make them defend as much as possible.

“When they have the puck, they’re a real good team.”

3. And the Detroit News’s Ted Kulfan took note of Frans Nielsen’s scoring streak:

Frans Nielsen’s winning goal against Anaheim was his 13th goal this season and maintained a recent hot streak.

Heading into Thursday’s game Nielsen had nine points (three goals, six assists) in his last nine games — after not getting a point in eight games.

“I don’t think about it much,” Nielsen said. “You try to go out there and compete every night and sometimes it bounces your way. I’m having a little bit of luck right now and hopefully it’ll keep bouncing my way.

“It’s been nice lately we’ve (Nielsen’s line) been able to (score goals). It shows in the wins, too, when we’re able to help that way.”

Said Blashill: “Fransy’s been real consistent in his game all year. When you play a consistent game, sometimes you (accumulate) point(s) and sometimes you don’t. Just like Anthony Mantha had played real well and not gotten rewarded for a while, then he got rewarded. I just think when you play good hockey, you’re rewarded in the long term.”

  1. Well that was fast, 2-0 zip with 6 shots vs King Howard. Mrazek and AA would have helped. They are on their own maintenance schedule.

AA will likely walk and KH will get rid of Mrazek. Rebuild is going backwards, only KH can do that.

Hope they can dig up a miracle and beat the Bolts, will need about 5 goals, I think.
